For about a year and a half, a storefront on the fourth floor of Stamford Town Center was blank space. But this summer it has been reinvigorated as a new tableau for one of Connecticut’s leading arts-focused nonprofits.
In an approximately 7,000-square-foot section of the downtown mall that was formerly occupied by a LOFT clothing store, the Greenwich Arts Council opened in June a gallery called GAC Loft. It offers the council another venue for showcasing artists’ works and connecting with new patrons, while its opening also highlights how Stamford Town Center and other malls in Connecticut are increasingly relying on non-retail tenants, as they seek to fill their spaces and diversify their offerings.
“We have to think outside the box in how we transform these spaces,” Tatiana Mori, executive director of the Greenwich Arts Council, said in an interview. “It’s a gain not just for one community, but for many communities.”
