Governor’s Mid-Term Budget Adjustment Proposal Calls for Drastic Cuts to the Arts

On February 3, 2010 Governor Rell released her mid-term Budget. In light of the state’s growing deficit, she has proposed further cuts to the Connecticut Commission on Culture & Tourism for the second year of the biennial budget.

Culture, Tourism and Arts Grants would be cut by $785,292 to $1,214,708 and Basic Cultural Resources Grants by $600,000 to $900,000. Arts and culture organizations with line item grants would be cut by an additional 60%.

These proposed cuts come on top of substantial cuts to the Commission’s FY10 budget, when the Commission sustained cuts of 38%.

To see the proposal for the Commission on Culture & Tourism, click here and look for Section C Proposed Appropriations and then Conservation & Development pages C-7 & C-8. Click here for info on how to voice your opposition to further cuts.
